ALLEN R. GLASSBURN TO BE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF KINGSPORT POWER COMPANY

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Allen R. Glassburn is expected to be elected president and chief operating officer of Kingsport Power Company, effective July 1. The announcement was made today in Kingsport, Tenn., by E. Linn Draper Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP).
Glassburn, 40, has served as manager of the Muncie Division of Indiana Michigan Power Company since 1987 and has worked for the AEP System for 18 years.
He replaces the late Michael J. Holzaepfel as Kingsport president. Holzaepfel, 47, had been president of Kingsport since June 1992. He died June 9 after suffering an apparent heart attack while jogging.
"Allen Glassburn has a record of community service and dedication to excellence that will serve him well as our top officer in Kingsport, and I am confident he will be able to expand upon the excellent initiatives and service of Mike Holzaepfel," Draper said.
Upon election, Glassburn will also become a director and a member of the executive committee of the board of directors of American Electric Power Service Corporation, the management and technology arm of the AEP System.
Born in Peru, Ind., Glassburn joined Indiana Michigan Power in 1974 as an engineer in the Marion Division. He became a senior engineer at Indiana Michigan's Cook Nuclear Plant in 1976 and briefly left the company in 1979 to work for RCA Corp.
Glassburn returned to the Marion Division as supervising engineer in 1979 and then served as station supervisor for the South Bend Division in 1983 and superintendent of the St. Joseph Division in 1984. He is a past director of Indiana Michigan Power.
Glassburn earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1974 at Purdue University, and he went on to earn a master of arts degree at Ball State University in 1983. In 1987, he earned a master of science degree in management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a Sloan Fellow.
He has held many community service positions, including work as a director of the Muncie/Delaware County Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the Muncie/Delaware Chamber's Industrial Development Committee; chairman and director of the Muncie Revolving Loan Fund, director of Junior Achievement; director of United Way; treasurer of the Farmington Neighborhood Association; a board member of Comprehensive Mental Health Services and the Horizon '96 Advisory Committee; secretary of Muncie's Economic Development Income Tax Board; and a member of Muncie Rotary Club.
He and his wife, Marcia, have three daughters, Alicia, a senior at Indiana University, Megan and Amanda.
