ALLEN R. FREEDMAN APPOINTED TO FORTIS' EXECUTIVE BOARD

 THE NETHERLANDS, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Group and N.V. AMEV today announced the appointment of Allen R. Freedman, chairman & chief executive officer of Fortis, Inc., to the executive board of Fortis, an international insurance and financial services group.
 As a result of Mr. Freeman's appointment, the board now includes direct representation of Fortis' U.S. activities. The board is responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of Fortis' strategic direction in Europe, North America, and Australia/Singapore.
 In making the announcement, J.L.M. Bartelds and M. Lippens, joint chairman of the Fortis executive board, said "This appointment is in recognition of the important contribution Mr. Freedman has made to the overall success of Fortis. Under his leadership, Fortis' U.S. business has developed significantly. In 1992, Fortis, Inc. recorded annualized revenues in excess of $2.5 billion and shareholder's equity of over $800 million."
 The chairman continued, "Mr. Freedman's vision to build an organization of financial service companies that are leaders in their niches has been instrumental to this growth. We welcome the broad base of knowledge, perspective and energy he will add to the executive board."
 Mr. Freedman's career with Fortis began in 1976 when he started merger and acquisition activities for AMEV in the United States. He became president of AMEV operations in the U.S. in 1979 and has been chairman of Fortis, Inc. since 1990. He is a graduate of Tufts College and the University of Virginia Law School. He also attended the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration.
 In 1992, Fortis, Inc. recorded annualized revenues in excess of $2.5 billion, shareholders' equity of over $800 million and has approximately 7,500 employees. Fortis, Inc's parent companies are Holland-based N.V. AMEV and Belgium-based AG Group. AMEV's ADRs trade over-the-counter on the NASDAQ system.
