ALLEGHENY LUDLUM CORPORATION AWARDS MANNESMANN DEMAG CORPORATION CONTRACT FOR ANNEALING AND PICKLING LINE

 PITTSBURGH, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Allegheny Ludlum Corporation (NYSE: ALS), Pittsburgh, has awarded Mannesmann Demag Corporation (MDC), Metal Plants Division's Rolling Mill Group, Pittsburgh, based on the technology provided by MDS Mannesmann Demag Sack GmbH, Duesseldorf, Germany, the contract to supply its new No. 91 Annealing and Pickling Line for their stainless steel finishing plant in Vandergrift, Pa.
 The new annealing and pickling line is part of a recently announced $56 million capital investment by Allegheny Ludlum in its Vandergrift stainless steel finishing plant. This investment is designed to further improve quality and efficiency and to meet the needs of the growing market demand.
 The continuous annealing and pickling line, designed for processing of cold strip, will have strip thicknesses from .012 to .125 inches with a width of 24 to 52 inches and a process speed of 200 feet per minute. This line includes Mannesmann Demag Corporation's electrolytic and turbulent pickling technology, which produces the highest quality pickling, while lowering utility and acid requirements.
 Mannesmann Demag Corporation's responsibility for supply includes the entry and exit terminal equipment, annealing furnace, welder, all auxiliary equipment, electrical equipment, instrumentation, acid purification and fume scrubber system.
 Supply of all equipment is scheduled for mid-1994.
