ALL SYSTEMS IGNORED ABUSE SAY BARNARDOS.
CHILDREN'S charity Barnardos last night welcomed the report's publication.
Director Fergus Finlay said: "The inspection system was woefully inadequate and all systems ignored complaints of abuse and neglect."
Dublin Rape Crisis Centre chief Ellen O'Malley-Dunlop added: "This report not only highlights the abuse it shines a very disturbing light on an Irish society which turned its back on its children." The Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin said he was mindful that short superficial comments would be an injustice to victims.
He added:"Their stories of horrible abuse are, in many cases, stomach turning; their courage in telling their stories admiral."
The Conference of Religious of Ireland apologised "unreservedly for the hurt and pain".
