 ALEXANDER NAMED CONTROLLER OF HUGHES TRANSPORTATION SECTOR
 LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Bruce W. Alexander has been named controller of Hughes Aircraft Co.'s Transportation Sector. He will report to the president of the sector.
 Alexander has been treasurer of Detroit-based GM Hughes Electronics Corp. (GMHE) since 1988. GMHE is a subsidiary of General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) and the parent of Hughes.
 The Hughes Transportation Sector is a commercial activity focused on automotive and other transportation and environmental products and services.
 Alexander assumes a new position, which will consolidate all financial functions across a broad range of business units. He brings an in-depth understanding of General Motors, the automotive business and financial practices to the sector, which was formed in April.
 Alexander, 42, was born in Cincinnati. He holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Kent State University in Ohio and a master's degree in finance from the University of Detroit. He joined General Motors in Cleveland in 1971 and moved to Detroit in 1978, where he held several positions on GM's financial staff before his appointment as treasurer of GMHE.
