ALEX. BROWN CONTINUES EXPANSION OF EUROPEAN ACTIVITY
WITH OPENING OF GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, OFFICE
BALTIMORE, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated announced today the opening of its second European office, in Geneva, Switzerland.
The office will be under the direction of Morten Kveim, a 30-year veteran in the international securities business. He is joined by four experienced international institutional sales professionals: Norbert Fellay, Johannes Niederhauser, Bernard Stucky and Marcel Wursch. The Geneva office will be located at 86 Rue du Rhone.
The office's primary focus will be the international sales of U.S. equity securities. Geneva was selected because it is a major European financial center, and Switzerland is the largest market for U.S. equities on the continent. Commenting on the opening, Mayo A. Shattuck III, president and chief operating officer of Alex. Brown, said, "Alex. Brown has longstanding relationships with institutional clients in Switzerland, France and the Benelux countries and a growing presence in Italy and Scandinavia. The firm is well-known for its growth stock focus, and the addition of the Geneva office will significantly enhance our ability to serve the important and growing European market."
International activities have become an increasingly important aspect of Alex. Brown's institutional, investment banking, and asset management strategies. Geneva represents the second phase of a plan to expand the firm's European activity in these businesses. The first phase was the recent expansion and move of Alex. Brown's London office, established in 1985. There are currently 15 people in the London office, including Managing Director Clinton R. Daly, head of the firm's international effort. The recent move will accommodate future expansion to 20 employees.
Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated, headquartered in Baltimore, is a major investment banking and securities brokerage firm. The firm serves individual, institutional, corporate and municipal clients from 20 offices in the United States and two in Europe. Founded in 1800, Alex.
