ALDUS TO SUPPORT KODAK'S PHOTO CD TECHNOLOGY

ALDUS TO SUPPORT KODAK'S PHOTO CD TECHNOLOGY
SEATTLE, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Aldus Corp. (NASDAQ: ALDC) today

announced that it will support Kodak Photo CD, a new technology from Eastman Kodak Co. (NYSE: EK) that will speed the task of integrating photographs into electronically-produced publications and presentations.
The Kodak Photo CD technology enables software owners to take a roll of color or black-and-white film to a photo developing service and have the images developed, digitized, and then stored on a compact disk (CD). Users can view and retrieve the images with any CD-ROM-compatible device, such as a CD-ROM XA, CDI or dedicated Photo CD player, then import them into compatible software programs, such as desktop publishing or image-processing applications.
"We believe Photo CD will become an industry standard for digitizing images," said Skip Walter, Aldus vice president of engineering. "For Aldus customers, the technology will provide an easy and affordable solution for integrating images into high-quality documents and presentations."
Aldus will support Photo CD in all of its products, beginning with Fetch, a new multiuser, mixed-media database technology for the Apple Macintosh. Fetch will enable people to easily catalog, browse and retrieve digital media in standard Macintosh file formats, such as those produced with Photo CD. Fetch will be available in the fourth quarter of 1992. Aldus will announce support for Photo CD in Aldus PageMaker, Aldus FreeHand, Aldus Persuasion and other products as it becomes available.
"Fetch will be the perfect tool for cataloging, locating and managing Photo CD images," said John Testement, Fetch product manager. "Together these technologies will dramatically streamline the way people acquire and later retrieve photos for use in computer-generated documents."
Aldus Corp. creates computer software solutions that help people throughout the world effectively communicate information and ideas. In addition to Fetch, the Aldus product line includes Aldus PageMaker -- the company's flagship program -- as well as Aldus Digital Darkroom, Aldus FreeHand, Aldus Gallery Effects, Aldus IntelliDraw, Aldus Personal Press, Aldus Persuasion, Aldus PhotoStyler, Aldus PrePrint, Aldus SuperCard, Aldus SuperPaint and Aldus Super 3D. The company distributes its products through an international network of more than 16,000 dealers and distributors.
