ALCORN NAMED PRESIDENT OF MELLON STUART CONSTRUCTION

 PITTSBURGH, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph N. (Nick) Alcorn III has been named president of Mellon Stuart Construction, Inc., a subsidiary of Michael Baker Corp. (AMEX: BKR), it was announced today.
 Alcorn replaces Robert H. Luffy, who has accepted a position with another company.
 Alcorn was previously executive vice president of operations for Mellon Stuart, where he was responsible for all facets of the operations of the company's three business units. His specific responsibilities included field operations and project management, and coordinating efforts with the company's business development, estimating and administrative functions. Alcorn joined Mellon Stuart in 1985 as operations manager.
 "Nick has been second-in-command at Mellon Stuart for several years," said William G. Thomas, Baker's president and chief executive officer. "He has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry and an intimate knowledge of Mellon Stuart's operations. We're pleased to have someone of his caliber step in to replace Bob."
 Prior to joining Mellon Stuart, Alcorn spent 10 years with Dick Corp., starting as field superintendent and working his way up to project manager. He has a B.S. degree in mathematics from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia.
 A native of Pittsburgh, Alcorn lives with his wife in Westmoreland County. They have four children.
 Michael Baker Corp. subsidiaries provide engineering, construction and operations and maintenance services worldwide.
