 ALCOA SELLS INTEREST IN GRUPO ALUMINIO IN MEXICO
 PITTSBURGH, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcoa (NYSE: AA) has sold its


44.3 percent interest in Grupo Aluminio, an aluminum producer in Mexico, to Grupo Carso, a diversified Mexican company.
 The sale will result in a small pre-tax loss.
 At the same time, Alcoa purchased from Grupo Aluminio a metals distributor, Alutudos, which operates 15 distribution centers throughout Mexico.
 Alcoa reported that its other activities in Mexico are unaffected by the sale. Units of Alcoa operate nine plants in Mexico that manufacture automotive wiring harnesses and closures for the packaging industry. In addition, the company sells aluminum ingot, fabricated aluminum products and alumna chemicals from the United States in Mexico. Alcoa said an evaluation of its strategic options in the Mexican market is being completed.
