ALCO INTERNATIONAL GROUP INC. FILES SLANDER AND FRAUD SUIT
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Alco International Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ALIG) ("the company") today announced that it has filed suit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California against certain broker/dealers, brokers, other individuals and DOES 1 through 250, alleging that the defendants are and have been intentionally spreading false information about the company and its business activities operated through its wholly owned subsidiaries. The lawsuit includes allegations of slander, fraud, unfair trade practices, violations of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, conspiracy and violations of the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act of 1969.
The company filed this lawsuit in response to what it believes to be a specific course of conduct designed to drive down the price of the company's stock. The named defendants are believed to be in a "short" position or are representing persons who are in a "short" position, and are believed by the company to be contacting Alco shareholders and stating misleading and false information in a plan designed to coerce shareholders into selling their stock.
The suit seeks $900,000,000 in compensatory damages, an additional $900,000,000 in punitive damages as well as injunctive relief.
Alco, through its subsidiaries, operates two primary businesses: the marketing of medical products for infection control and for women's health; and the transportation of containerized cargo from South Florida to the Caribbean.
