ALCO INTERNATIONAL GROUP INC. ANNOUNCES THE FINALIZATION OF AGREEMENT
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Alco International Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ALIG) Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1991, announced the finalization of an agreement to acquire the rights to the Barrier Integrity Monitor from LEI Inc. According to Alco's president Robert Donnell, the Barrier Integrity Monitor is a device that detects moisture contact (blood) between health care workers and patients that occurs when protective barriers such as surgical gloves fail. The detection of these failures should reduce the risk of transmission of fluid borne pathogens such as: HIV, hepatitis and staphylococcus between patients and health care workers. These failures are a major source of concern to the medical community and patients. Many of these failures are quite small and are not now immediately detectable by existing methods.
Donnell also said the company plans to have the product available beginning in mid-1992. The company believes that the use of the Barrier Integrity Monitor will become a standard of infection control in most surgical and dental settings.
Alco, through its subsidiaries operates two primary businesses: the marketing of medical products for infection control and women's health and the transportation of containerized cargo from South Florida to the Caribbean.
