ALCAN AND TEKSID FORM AUTOMOTIVE CASTING PARTNERSHIP IN THE U.S.
DETROIT, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcan Aluminium Limited, one of the world's largest aluminum producers, and Teksid, a member of the Fiat Group and one of the world's leading automotive foundry companies, today announced the formation of a 50/50 joint venture named Altek Automotive Castings, to develop, manufacture and market new advanced cast aluminum and Duralcan aluminum composite structural components for the automotive industries, including brake rotors, brake calipers and engine block cylinder liners. Through this joint venture, Alcan and Teksid will capitalize upon their extensive international resources in the production of aluminum alloys and composites and of high technology manufacture of castings respectively. Altek will support the growing needs of the automotive industry for high performance aluminum castings, with a particular focus on North American domestic and transplant automobile manufactures and their suppliers, and will offer a range of highly engineered castings, including castings in Duralcan aluminum composite materials, manufactured with the high standards in cost, quality and reliability which Teksid foundries are currently offering to their customers worldwide. The new joint venture will be headquartered in Detroit and will operate the former Alcan Automotive Castings plant at St. Catharines, Ontario.
