ALBUM CHART-BURNERS BOYZ II MEN TO APPEAR IN ADS FOR PEPSI-COLA'S SLICE BRANDS

SOMERS, N.Y., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the music industry's hottest young recording acts has joined the Pepsi Generation. Boyz II Men, the chart-topping R&B group, has signed a multi-brand ad endorsement deal with Pepsi-Cola Company.
The group will begin shooting their first ad -- for Pepsi's Slice flavor line -- on Tuesday, Aug. 17 in all-night session at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
"Boyz II Men are naturals for Pepsi," said Jeff Campbell, senior vice president, Brand Development. "The group will heighten our brands' images as the choice of youth at a time when our teen imagery scores have never been higher."
Boyz II Men are currently teens' favorite musical performers, scoring higher in popularity than any other musical act, according to a new nationwide survey conducted by Chicago-based Teen Research Unlimited.
Unlike teens' second-, third- and fourth-favorite musical acts -- TLC, En Vogue and Mary J. Blige, respectively -- Boyz II Men enjoy strong crossover appeal. Both black and white teens ranked the group as their favorite.
"Teens are continually attracted to the newest artists," Campbell said. "What's unique is that Boyz II Men are more popular now then when they debuted. In the ten years we've tracked teen's musical tastes, it's extremely rare to see a group become even hotter after first coming on the scene."
Indeed, the group's debut album "Cooleyhighharmony" took the music industry by storm, selling 5 million copies in the U.S. and approximately 2 million abroad, the most ever for a R&B group. Their chart-burning single, "End of the Road," also broke Elvis Presley's 30-year record by sitting on top of the "Billboard Hot 100" chart for 13 consecutive weeks.
The velvet-voiced quartet -- Wanya "Squirt" Morris, 17, Michael "Bass" McCary, 19, Shawn "Slim" Stockman, 18, and Nathan "Alex Vanderpool" Morris, 19 -- hail from Philadelphia, where they met in 1988 at the High School of Creative and Performing Arts.
The group joins a celebrated line of pop performers to star in Pepsi ads, including Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, M.C. Hammer, Lionel Richie, Robert Palmer, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Gloria Estefan, Glenn Frey, and others.
Pepsi-Cola Company, based in Somers, is a division of PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP). The company's national ad agency, BBDO, NY, is creating the Boyz II Men commercials.
