ALBERT FISHER ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF U.K. FRUIT AND VEGETABLE IMPORTER
WINDSOR, Berkshire, U.K., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Albert Fisher Group PLC today announced that it has acquired the entire share capital of Jacques Onona & Co. Limited ("Onona") from the Onona family.
Onona operates from modern freehold offices located at Elstree, near London, as a specialist importer of high quality fruit and vegetables, selling principally to U.K. supermarkets and wholesalers. The main countries from which Onona imports are France and Morocco, with the major product being French apples.
The business has a current annual turnover of 15 million pounds sterling and was founded in 1971 by Jacques Onona, who will remain as chairman and managing director.
Jacques Onona is currently president of the European Union of the Fruit and Vegetable Trade (import, wholesale and export) ("Eucofel") and on the executive board of the U.K. Fruit Importers Association ("FIA"), and will continue in these roles.
The contacts and experience of Jacques Onona will be used to help strengthen and expand the European fresh produce businesses of Albert Fisher, which now have an annualized turnover of 400 million pounds, operating in five European countries. Onona is complementary to, and will operate independently from, Albert Fisher's existing U.K. fruit importing business, Wentworth Import and Export Limited.
