ALASKA SUSPENDS CASH PAYMENT

SEATTLE, Dec. 1 ~PRNewswire~ -- Alaska Air Group Inc. (NYSE: ALK; PSE) today announced that it was indefinitely suspending payment of the quarterly dividend on its common stock.
Chairman Raymond Vecci said the decision to defer the 5-cent-per- share payment stems from the company's financial results for the first nine months of the year.
The company reported a net loss of $35.7 million, or $3.06 per share, for the period ended Sept. 30, 1992. In September it announced a reduction and deferral of aircraft orders which will cut capital spending commitments by some $600 million over the next five years.
"The board of directors determined this action was necessary in light of the 1992 losses and the difficult economic environment surrounding the domestic airline industry," Vecci said.
Alaska Air Group, the parent corporation of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, is listed on the New York and Pacific Stock Exchanges.
