 ALASKA AIRLINES WINS APPROVAL FOR ROUTE BETWEEN SEATTLE, MEXICAN RESORTS; SERVICE TO START JAN. 31
 SEATTLE, Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines announced today it has received U.S. Department of Transportation approval to begin nonstop service between Seattle and the Mexican resort cities of Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.
 Mexican government approval is expected to be forthcoming.
 Alaska will begin service Jan. 31 using 136-seat Boeing 727-200 aircraft, bringing to nearly 90 the number of round-trips it offers weekly to Mexico.
 Alaska will offer four round-trip flights a week -- nonstop to Mazatlan and continuing to Puerto Vallarta on Fridays and Sundays and nonstop to Puerto Vallarta and continuing to Mazatlan on Saturdays and Mondays. Flights will depart Seattle at 11 a.m. and arrive back at 11:10 p.m.
 Alaska, which will be the only regularly scheduled carrier flying nonstop between Seattle and Mexico, also offers daily service to Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta from Seattle through Los Angeles and San Francisco.
 Seattle-based Alaska serves 38 cities in Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Russia and five Western states.
