ALASKA AIRLINES TO BEGIN SERVICE TO BARROW
SEATTLE, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines announced today

it plans to begin service to Barrow, Alaska, on March 2.
Alaska will offer one daily round-trip except Sunday to the North Slope community from Anchorage via Fairbanks using Boeing 737 Combi (combination passenger and cargo) aircraft.
Flights will depart Anchorage at 7:55 a.m. and Fairbanks at 9:20 a.m., arriving in Barrow at 10:45 a.m. Southbound flights will depart Barrow at 11:30 a.m., flying nonstop to Prudhoe Bay, arriving at 12:15 p.m. The aircraft will continue to Fairbanks, arriving at 2:05 p.m., and Anchorage, arriving at 3:35 p.m.
In addition, Alaska's flight schedules will show a second, evening Barrow flight through a subcontract agreement with marketing partner Era Aviation. Reservations on Era will be made through Alaska at 800-426-0333. That flight, operated with a 50-seat Convair 580, originates in Anchorage and flies nonstop between Fairbanks and Barrow.
Alaska's half-off fare promotion will be expanded for travel beginning March 2 to include travel between Barrow and other jet points served by Alaska Airlines. Under the promotion the lowest round-trip fare for Barrow-Anchorage will be $276 and Barrow-Fairbanks $199. The low fares are good for travel on or before May 16. Tickets must be purchased no later than Feb. 14.
"We've been looking at Barrow for several years," said Bill MacKay, the airline's regional vice president based in Anchorage. "Our fleet expansion gives us the opportunity to enter the market now. The 737-200C is the perfect aircraft for balancing Barrow's passenger needs with its considerable freight and mail demands."
Alaska Airlines serves 38 cities in Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Russia and five Western states.
