ALASKA AIRLINES STARTS DILLINGHAM, KING SALMON SERVICE SUNDAY
SEATTLE, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines inaugurates daily nonstop service from Anchorage to the Southwest Alaska fishing communities of Dillingham and King Salmon on Sunday, the airline announced today.
Alaska initially will offer three round-trip flights daily -- nonstop from Anchorage to Dillingham, nonstop from Anchorage to King Salmon and a third trip that will be routed Anchorage-King Salmon- Dillingham-Anchorage. A fourth flight -- Anchorage-King Salmon- Dillingham-Anchorage -- will be added June 8. All service will be seasonal.
Celebrations are planned Saturday in both communities to mark the start of service.
Alaska will complement the year-round turboprop service of PenAir, said Bill MacKay, Alaska's regional vice president based in Anchorage. The large volume of traffic in the summer from the fishing industry demands jet aircraft in these markets, he added.
PenAir and Alaska are marketing and code-sharing partners, providing feed traffic to each other in Anchorage.
Alaska's schedule will include morning, mid-day and evening departures from both destinations. Some flights will feature same- plane service to and from Seattle.
Boeing 727 and 737 aircraft will be used.
