ALAN FRIEDMAN NAMED WANG VICE PRESIDENT LOWELL, Mass., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Wang Laboratories, Inc.
(AMEX: WAN) announced today that Alan Friedman has been promoted to vice president, human resources. Friedman will continue his current responsibilities as leader of Wang's worldwide human resources organization, on an acting basis.
Richard W. Miller, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "During this critical time, Alan has been working closely with the entire senior management team to ensure that our human resources organization effectively supports the implementation of our worldwide restructuring program. Alan's in-depth knowledge and understanding of our operations will contribute significantly to our efforts." Wang's restructuring program, when fully implemented, is expected by management to return the company to profitability and to enable a successful and timely emergence from Chapter 11 protection which Wang obtained on Aug. 18. Friedman joined Wang in 1980 and most recently served as senior director, human resources. In this assignment he was responsible for human resource programs for Wang's worldwide sales and marketing organization, and for the company's compensation, retirement, organization effectiveness, and affirmative action programs. During his twelve-year career at the company, he has held several human resource assignments of increasing responsibility for Wang's service and support, sales, marketing, and home office organization. Friedman and his wife, Barbara, have three children and reside in Bedford, N.H.
