ALABAMA TO ADD NEW AREA CODE

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Alabama's 205 area code is about out of telephone numbers due to the phenomenal growth in telecommunications throughout the state.
On Jan. 15, 1995, Alabama's local telephone companies will introduce a new 334 area code for telephone subscribers in the southern half of the state, including subscribers in Andalusia, Dothan, Gulf Shores, Mobile, Montgomery, Phenix City and Selma, to name a few. The remainder of the state will remain in 205.
South Central Bell and other local telephone companies will conduct extensive information campaigns during 1994 to educate customers about the change. The new code is being announced more than a year before implementation to give customers plenty of time to prepare for the change.
