AJK President Masood Khan performs national flag hoisting ceremony at Aiwan-e-Saddar.
MIRPUR (AJK) -- Like other parts of AJK, the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan was also celebrated in the State's capital town on Monday.
National Flag hoisting ceremony at the President House was the hall mark of the day where the President Sardar Masood Khan hoisted the national flag while Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan, ministers, members of Assembly and government officials attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan felicitated the nation on the Independence Day. He stressed the need for taking strenuous steps for prosperity and progress of the country.
He said resolution of Kashmir issue was very important for peace in the region. Farooq Haider said the core issue of Kashmir could only be settled through talks. AJK Prime Minister strongly condemned the ceasefire violations by India at the Line of Control (LoC).
Speakers on the occasion reiterated their resolve to work for socio-economic uplift of the country. A large number of people belonging to different walks of life attended the ceremony.
Meanwhile, fireworks demonstrations held at Domel and Nalochi bridges in the middle of the city under the auspices of Municipal Corporation followed by a similar activity by Development Authority Muzaffarabad (DAM) at Sathra Park. Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider also participated in the celebrations.
Earlier, the day began with specials prayers in Mosques for the
progress and prosperity of the country followed by flag hoisting ceremonies at all district headquarters of the territory where commissioners and deputy commissioners hoisted flags at their respective headquarters.
A tourism gala was also organized at Rawalakot airport in which
hundreds of people enjoyed the event. Seminars and functions were also held at all cities and towns of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to explore the significance of independence and express love and affection for Pakistan besides organizing rallies.
