AIT-2 Advances ADIC's Tape Libraries.
"Sony's AIT technology is gaining acceptance in the market, especially for applications that need capacity and file access times, including digital multi-media production, medical imaging, and digital asset management," noted Jonathan Otis, ADIC vice president of product management. "The importance and the volume of data in these applications demand both AIT's technology and the kinds of scalable and mixed media library capabilities delivered by ADIC."
"Together, ADIC automated tape libraries and Sony AIT tape technology form a combination that is solving data storage and retrieval problems from workgroup backup to digital asset management projects," commented John Woelbern, senior marketing manager of Sony Electronics, Inc., Tape Streamer Products. "The ADIC range of library products is the kind of automated storage platform that will help deliver AIT technology into new applications."
For the company's Scalar AIT libraries, AIT-2 technology will enable compressed capacities, ranging from 2TB to nearly 120TB. Advanced Digital Information Corporation's AML series libraries extend the support to 256 drives and 70,000 cartridges.
ADIC AIT-2 libraries are available immediately with suggested list price beginning at $15,131. The company's existing AIT libraries are also designed to be field-upgradeable for the new AIT-2 drive technology.
