AIRTRAN ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT FOR PAYMENT FROM NORTHWEST

 MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- AirTran Corporation's (NASDAQ: ATCC) subsidiary Mesaba Airlines, announced today that it has reached a verbal agreement with officers of Northwest Airlines that a delayed payment of 5.4 million dollars will be made on July 8. This payment will allow Mesaba to continue to operate its normal schedule as a Northwest Airlink. The payment was originally due on June 28th as required by the Airline Services Agreement between Northwest and Mesaba. Under the Airline Services Agreement, substantially all of Mesaba's revenues are collected by Northwest and remitted to Mesaba by Northwest on a semi-monthly basis based on traffic reports.
 Mesaba is a regional airline providing scheduled passenger service to 47 cities in metropolitan areas in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and the Province of Ontario, Canada, under the name "Mesaba/Northwest Airlink." Mesaba currently offers a total of approximately 2,300 scheduled departures per week and has a route system with scheduled service totalling approximately 259,000 miles per week. Currently, approximately 81 percent of all Mesaba's passengers connect with Northwest flights either at Minneapolis/St. Paul or Detroit.
