AIRBUS INDUSTRIE LAUNCHES THE A319

LE BOURGET, France, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Reflecting its confidence in the market, Airbus Industrie today announced its decision to launch the A319, a reduced-capacity member of its popular A320/A321 family.
When it enters service in Spring 1996, the advanced-technology, 130-seat A319 will offer greater passenger comfort and containerized cargo capability, higher speed, longer range and lower operating costs than any of its competitors, all of which are derived from airframes originally designed in the mid-1960s. Customers may choose to have their A319s powered by de-rated versions of the low-emission CFM56 or V2500 engines used on the A320 and A321, thus offering proven reliability from start of service as well as total maintenance commonality.
Together with the 150-seat A320 and 186-seat A321, the A319 rounds out the world's most versatile family of commercial jetliners. The very high level of commonality between the A319, A320 and A321 will enable all three Airbus aircraft to be operated effectively as a single type, with significant operational and cost savings. Further savings can be obtained through cross crew qualification with the Airbus A330 and A340 twin-aisle types.
Los Angeles-based leasing company ILFC, which has a proven record of ordering the right aircraft at the right time, has already placed a firm order for six A319s. Airbus Industrie anticipates that its decision to launch the A319 at this difficult time for the world airline industry will now encourage other customers to come forward. Total firm orders for the A319/A320/A321 family stand at 817 aircraft for 39 customers.
