AIR YOU READY? EXCLUSIVE: FRENCH DUO & SHADOW HEADLINE FEST: ULTIMATE ULSTER.
Gotta love the easy weeks that come all too rarely for us (Aye right. Ed). First drafted a fortnight ago - as a world exclusive no less - and held up by the red-tape of beaurocracy, it's a pleasure and honour to cut and paste the announcement that French electronic duo, Air, and the seminal talents of DJ Shadow are to headline this year's Trans festival.
Organised by Belfast Waterfront and taking place in city centre venues from July 3-24, Trans has established itself from humble beginnings to be one of the foremost and anticipated festivals.
In an announcement made today, and two weeks ago, the venue's Adam Turkington said: "This is extremely exciting news for this year's summer festival calendar. A big part of what the trans festival is about is bringing international bands to Belfast at a traditionally very quiet time of year. Air and DJ Shadow are guaranteed to be the two 'mustsee' gigs of the year."
The release of Moon Safari propelled the Parisians Air to worldwide cult status. Renowned for their catchy brand of electronica, they have released five studio albums, "all absolute belters" according to Ultimate. Currently on a sell out world tour, Air's Waterfront show on Thursday July 8 is their first-ever Belfast gig.
DJ Shadow meanwhile is widely credited as the seminal figure in developing the experimental instrumental hip-hop style associated with the London-based Mo'Wax label. Shadow's first full-length LP, 1996's Endtroducing...
was massive, and later releases - The Private Press, Diminishing Returns and The Outsider - have confirmed his position as one of the world's best-loved DJs and producers and he touches down in Belfast on Sunday July 4. The full line-up for trans 2010 will be released at the end of May and promises to be full of international and local acts, comedy, exhibitions and more.
Tickets for both Air (pounds 22.50) and DJ Shadow (pounds 20) are on sale and available online, from the Waterfront and Ulster Hall Box Offices and by calling 028 9033 4455.
