AIR WISCONSIN FLIGHT ATTENDANTS PICKET UNITED AIRLINES OVER PLANNED SALE OF ARW ASSETS

CHICAGO, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Flight attendants at Air Wisconsin, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO, will join fellow employees, including pilots and ticket agents, in picketing to inform the public about United Airlines' continuing efforts to break up and sell Air Wisconsin's assets piece by piece. Picketing will take place at Chicago O'Hare Airport on June 4, 5 and 6 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
United purchased Air Wisconsin (ARW), a United Express carrier, last year. On Jan. 7, 1993, United sold ARW's Washington Dulles operations to Atlantic Coast Airlines, and furlough notices began to go out to ARW flight attendants. As of April, a total of 90 flight attendants are on furlough at Air Wisconsin, and United has tentatively agreed to sell the remaining ARW operation to the owner of Trans States Airlines.
"United says the sale and break-up of Air Wisconsin is an assets only' transaction," said Jill Hoffman, president of the Air Wisconsin AFA unit. "That's the root of the problem -- the company refuses to recognize or take into account the dedicated women and men who are this airline's most valuable asset. For those of us not yet furloughed, the future is uncertain, and our lives are on hold."
The Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO, represents more than 33,000 flight attendants at 21 airlines and is the largest flight attendant union in the world.
