AIR PRODUCTS TO RAISE U.S. MERCHANT INDUSTRIAL GAS PRICES

ALLENTOWN, Pa. July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD) will increase prices for liquid and bulk oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and helium supplied to merchant and government accounts in most areas of the United States.
Price schedules for oxygen, nitrogen, and argon will be increased by 3 to 4 percent, effective Aug. 15, 1993 for new customers, and effective Sept. 1, 1993 for existing customers. Discounts from schedule unit prices and monthly service charges will also be reduced, effective Sept. 1, 1993, or in accordance with existing contract provisions. Hydrogen and helium prices will be increased by 10 percent. These changes are necessary to offset increased costs of production and distribution, and to sustain adequate returns on investment.
The price schedules for oxygen, nitrogen, and argon customers in California, Arizona, and Nevada will not be changed at this time.
Air Products will also reestablish special service charges for those customers who restrict the hours during which they can accept deliveries, or who request emergency deliveries.
Air Products last increased its nationwide merchant industrial gas price schedules in September 1992.
