AIR PRODUCTS ANNOUNCES NEW LIQUID HYDROGEN
 PRODUCTION FACILITY IN FLORIDA
ALLENTOWN, Pa., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD) announced today the construction of a new liquid hydrogen (LH2) production facility to serve the long-term needs of the space, aerospace and government programs, including the space shuttle and other launch vehicles, and the commercial market.
Utilizing Air Products' proprietary technology to produce 30 tons per day of LH2, the new facility is expected onstream in early 1994. Depending on expected state and local development incentives, the facility is to be located at the company's chemical manufacturing plant in Pace, Fla., near Pensacola. Air Products has signed an agreement with Spaceport Florida Authority to pursue development incentives for the new facility and to ensure that it serves the best interests of the State of Florida, the Pace and Pensacola communities, the space industry, and the company's other liquid hydrogen customers.
Earlier this year, Air Products announced a capacity expansion at its New Orleans, La., production facility. The new Florida production facility will increase the company's total North American LH2 capacity to 135 tons per day. The world's largest supplier of liquid hydrogen, Air Products also has LH2 production facilities in Sacramento, Calif., Sarnia, Ontario, and the Netherlands.
Air Products' Pace facility, located on 1,500 acres on the shores of Escambia Bay northeast of Pensacola, is an integrated chemical production complex manufacturing agricultural chemicals and chemical intermediates, including amines, methanol and nitric acid. At Pace, Air Products currently produces gaseous hydrogen for the production of ammonia and other agricultural chemicals.
A Fortune 200 company, Air Products is one of the world's leading suppliers of industrial gases, chemicals, process equipment, and environmental and energy systems, with annual sales of $3 billion.
