AIR METHODS INCORPORATES FIRST-OF-ITS KIND INTERNATIONAL AIR MEDICAL JOINT VENTURE TO BE LAUNCHED IN MEXICO CITY

DENVER, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Methods Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: AIRM), the nation's largest exclusive provider of air medical services and systems, today announced its incorporation of a joint venture company, known as "Air Medica Movil, S.A.," preparatory to the company's initiation of the first fully integrated air medical operation ever based in Mexico City. Through this recently completed joint venture corporation with Medica Movil, S.A., the largest, most sophisticated ground ambulance provider in Latin America, the company's air medical service will be the first exclusively dedicated, air medical operation ever initiated in Mexico by a U.S. medical aviation services firm. This joint venture company, partially owned by Medica Movil with the company, will facilitate Air Methods inauguration of medical helicopter and later jet airplane, integrated air medical services to the 18 million people living in Mexico City and its immediate environs.
This joint venture, cooperatively owned and managed by Air Methods Corp. and Medica Movil, will provide advanced life support air medical transport services, complementing Medica Movil's ground ambulance patient care transport system, through a unique membership capitation program inaugurated by Medica Movil in 1988. This unique membership, reduced-payment arrangement will continue to allow residents of Mexico City to annually pre-purchase the right to receive rapid ground and air medical transportation to specific acute care hospitals strategically located throughout Mexico City. This membership capitation program has propelled Medica Movil into becoming the most rapidly growing provider of dedicated ground ambulance emergency medical services in Mexico.
This membership program, developed by Medica Movil and covering some 39,000 family units residing in Mexico City, is now being expanded to include air medical transportation services to be provided by Air Methods in this joint venture. Employing approximately 400 people, Medica Movil will utilize its sales force to expand its existing medical membership capitation program from ground ambulance transport to include air medical flight services.
Air Methods Corp. is the largest exclusive provider of state-of-the-art emergency air medical transportation systems and services to hospitals in North America. Air Methods now serves 57 hospitals in 14 states under 23 dedicated, long-term operating agreements throughout the United States and will shortly begin providing similar emergency air medical services throughout Mexico, as previously announced. The company utilizes only Instrument Flight Rule (IFR)-certified pilots and aircraft, including 30 helicopters and 14 airplanes, to perform these services. In addition, Air Methods offers completely integrated airborne medical systems for administering intensive care to patients while flying to a trauma center or a tertiary care facility, either from outlying hospitals or the scene of an accident.
