AIR FORCE AWARDS CONTRACT TO LOGICON
 FOR MISSION PLANNING SOFTWARE
LOS ANGELES, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Logicon Inc. (NYSE: LGN) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Air Force for work on critical mission planning software.
The contract, which is administered by the Air Force's 3908th Contracting Squadron, covers one base year worth $7.9 million and four option years. The potential value of the contract is $37.7 million, if all options are exercised.
Logicon computer experts will enhance and maintain a family of software programs that support the development of the nation's Single Integrated Operational Plan and Conventional Operational Plans for aircraft employment and deployment.
The need for mission planning software is not affected by changes in the international arms reduction agreements or by changes in the U.S. defense budget because it is a planning tool and is not dependent on weapon types or numbers.
The programs help U.S. military leaders plan how strategic weapons will be used. The plans allow U.S. forces to maintain readiness, thus enhancing the nation's security. Software revisions and updates are needed periodically to provide rapid response to changes in national policy reflecting changes in the world political and military situation, to modify targeting for missiles and bombers, and to match technical improvements in weapon systems.
Work will be performed at Logicon facilities at San Pedro, Calif., Bellevue, Neb. and certain Air Force facilities.
Logicon is a leader in providing advanced technology systems and services to support national security, civil and industrial needs.
