AIR CANADA WILL INTRODUCE BUSINESS CLASS ON ALL OF
ITS DC-9 AIRCRAFT FROM THE UNITED STATES
NEW YORK, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- As a result of Air Canada's current refurbishing of its entire DC-9 fleet to be completed by Feb. 1, 1992, the airlines famed Executive Class will become available on all flights, regardless of aircraft used, from the United States to Canada served by the airline, including for the first time, on routes from Newark, N.J., and Boston.
The narrow-bodied DC-9 which had been operated as a 100-seat all- economy service, will now include a separate 12-seat Executive Class cabin with two-by-two seating and an 80-seat economy class cabin with two-by-three seating. Until now, Executive Class was only available on Air Canada flights operated on routes with other than DC-9 aircraft.
Air Canada's Executive Class in North America costs only 10 percent more (minimum $25) than the applicable full economy fare. In addition to meal service with choice of a low-fat or regular entree, Executive Class passengers on DC-9s enjoy most of the services associated with business class on wide-body aircraft such as larger more comfortable seats (38-inch pitch) with foot rests, newly installed "Seatfones" and access to Air Canada's new transborder airport Maple Leaf Lounge in Toronto. All Air Canada passengers are offered complimentary beverage service regardless of class traveled.
Currently, Air Canada operates from Boston and from Newark with only DC-9 aircraft, and therefore will introduce a business-class for the first time to Canada from these cities. The airline operates a mixture of aircraft types, including the DC-9, on other routes it serves from other U.S. cities, including Miami, and New York from LaGuardia.
The introduction of Executive Class on Air Canada's DC-9s is in response to customer demand for a business class service on shorter haul routes.
