AIR CANADA TO ACQUIRE 24 CANADAIR REGIONAL JET AIRCRAFT

MONTREAL, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bombardier Aerospace Group, North America, announced today that Air Canada has signed a letter of intent for the acquisition of 24 Canadair Regional Jet aircraft manufactured by Canadair in Montreal. Air Canada also has options to acquire another 24 aircraft at a later date.
Commenting on the proposed transaction, Bob Brown, president of the Bombardier Aerospace Group, North America, said: "Air Canada's choice of our Regional Jet proves once more that the Canadair Regional Jet's 50- seat configuration fits a unique niche for the air transport industry in the emerging deregulated and highly competitive environment."
Once the transaction is finalized, Air Canada will become the Canadian launch customer.
The order is a major boost for the program and represents 4,000 person-years of work for Canadair and its suppliers across Canada.
The Canadair Regional Jet is manufactured and assembled at the Canadair facilities in Montreal and the interior completion and painting is carried out by de Havilland in Toronto.
