AIR & WATER TECHNOLOGIES SUBSIDIARY AWARDED 5-YEAR CONTRACT TO OPERATE
 LYNN WATER TREATMENT PLANT
 WAKEFIELD, Mass., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Metcalf & Eddy, a subsidiary of Air & Water Technologies Corporation (AMEX: AWT), has signed a five-year, $4.4 million contract with the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission, Lynn, Mass., to operate and maintain the municipal water treatment facility located at 390 Parkland Ave. and a low-service pumping station that draws supply water from four local reservoirs.
 Under the full-service operations and maintenance contract, the company will staff, operate and maintain the Parkland Avenue facility around the clock. Services will also include continuous monitoring and laboratory testing of treated water to maintain water quality standards.
 The treatment plant, which went on-line in Februaru 1989, is a direct filtration treatment facility designed to accommodate an average flow of 15.3 million gallons per day, with a peak flow capacity of 23 mgd. Elements of the treatment system include high rate coagulation mixers, gravity filters with granulated activated carbon-over-sand, a backwash pumping and treatment system, high service pumps, a clear well, a 23-million-gallon covered reservoir, a sludge disposal system and an emergency electrical generator system. Metcalf & Eddy will also operate and maintain the chemical feed equipment and systems that add the chemicals necessary to facilitate the water treatment process.
 The contract begins May 1, 1992, and runs until May 1, 1997.
