AIOU to set up Intl Center of Excellence and Research.

ISLAMABAD -- Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will set up "International Center of Excellent and Research" for improvement of research methodology at higher level in Pakistani Universities and sufficient fund would be provided for setting up the center.

This was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi while addressing the opening ceremony of the 2-days workshop on "Standardization of Research Methodology in M. Phil and Ph.D (Islamic Studies) programmes in Pakistani Universities".

The workshop is being arranged by Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, AIOU with the support of HEC. Professors, Deans, Senior Teachers and Head of Departments from all Pakistani Universities participated in the workshop.

Dr. Sangi said that we should focus our concentration on the standardization of research methodology.

He said that there is a need of bringing about necessary amendments in the on-going research methods of Islamic Studies that could meet contemporary need.

"We must promote productive and creative research works at the Universities level so that it could be beneficial for formulating policies of public importance, he asserted.

AIOU, he said is a technology-based University and have Video-Conferencing facilities in its Regional Campuses at 15-different regions across the country.

He instructed the Faculty of Islamic Studies, AIOU to arrange once another meeting through Video-conferencing system of these participants for more discussion, collecting new suggestions/recommendations for standardization of Research Methodology in M.Phil and Ph.D (Islamic Studies).

Dr. Sangi said, "we should work hard to raise the standard of research journals of Islamic Studies to enhance its utilization and application at the community-level".

There is need of developing linkages among various Universities and research organizations for enhancing the standard of the research work.

He said that AIOU will set-up a Science Club under the name of "Science for the Societty". Under the scheme, the students of AIOU and other educational institutions will be invited to give their projects that could be useful for resolving issues, being faced by the under-privilege sections of the people particularly those living in the rural areas.

The projects would be divided into five categories for research work that will be decided by the Science Club. He invited all the participants of the workhop to join this club in order to work together for promotion of science education in the country.

In his speech on "Standards of Islamic Scholarship" Justice Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali, IRI, International Islamic University said that Science is linked with the Holy Book Al-Quran and all of us should follow the Quran for new discoveries because it's full of discoveries.

Presenting his lecture on "Joint Ventures and Collaboration of the Islamic Studies Departments for Research Activities" Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Vice-Chancellor, Peshawar University Peshawar said there is dire need to research on the current, new, complicated and disputed topic.

Prof. Dr. Anees Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Riphah International University presented his key-note address on "Curriculum and Teaching Standards for Research Programmes".

At the end the Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi has distributed certificates and bags amongst the participants.
