AIOU holds day-long workshop on recent advances in mathematics.

ISLAMABAD -- Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Wednesday a day-long workshop on recent advances in mathematics to motivate its students to find out methods for solving Non-Homogeneous Linear Differential Equations.

The event was arranged as a part of distinguished lecture series undertaken by the university to promote and disseminate research-based studies on matters of human-interest, said spokesman of AIOU.

The workshop aimed at bringing together practicing applied and computational mathematicians to exchange the recent research and promote the research activity in Pakistan. A large number of MS/M.Phil Mathematics students attended the event.

Renowned mathematician Professor Dr. Abdul Majeed Siddique of Pennsylvania State University (USA) and Chairperson, Department of Mathematics, COMSATS Islamabad Prof. Dr. Tahira Haroon presented their comprehensive analysis on the recent advances in mathematics.

They presented well-known methods for solving Non-Homogeneous Linear

Higher order Differential Equations that included reduction of order, method of undermined coefficients and variation of parameters methods.

They said mathematics plays a key role in the development of various branches of science as well as in the understanding of physical world problem.

They said that mathematics is used throughout the world as an essential tool in many fields including natural science, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences. They said it plays a major role in the progress of society.

The American Professor delivered his lecture on a new method called RFO (Reduction to first order method) for solving the non-homogeneous linear second differential equations.

He said the solution appears in the standard form as the sum of the solution of the equivalent homogeneous problem and the particular solution of the inhomogeneous problem at hand.

The main advantage of the method exposed herein is that the particular solution is computable from two different integrals, This allows the problem solver to choose the simplest integral with which to work with in order to get the final solution, he added.

He solved different equation through RFO order and advised the participants teachers to teach this new method to their students in solving Non-homogeneous linear differential equations.

During his talks held here in connection with the University's distinguished-lecture series, he said that AIOU has made a great headway towards the promotion of quality education through distance learning system.

The function was also attended by the Registrar, AIOU Prof.

Dr. Mohammad Naeem Qureshi and Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Naghmana Rashid and Dr. Nasir Rehman, Head of Department of Mathematics.
