NEW YORK, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG), today announced that Stanton F. Long will join the company as president of AIG's cost containment division, responsible for coordinating all of the company's workers' compensation cost containment activities and programs. In this newly created position, he will report to AIG President Thomas R. Tizzio.
Long, 50, has announced his resignation as president and chief executive officer of SAIF Corporation of Salem, Ore., the leading workers' compensation insurance company in Oregon and a recognized leader in the workers' compensation field. He has also served two periods in state government in Oregon, as deputy attorney general from 1981-83 and as director, Oregon Department of Commerce, in 1987. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Oregon and a J.D. degree from Willamette University College of Law.
Commenting on Long's appointment, Tizzio said, "We are extremely pleased to have an individual of Stan Long's experience, acknowledged success and proven leadership abilities heading up our cost containment efforts. This is an increasingly critical area for our clients and one of the most difficult issues facing all employers in the United States today. SAIF has established itself as a leader in this area due in large measure to Stan's talents and efforts. We look forward to having him join the AIG management team."
Long expects to join AIG on or about May 1.
