AHMAD BIN MAJID PRIVATE SCHOOL HOSTS CAMBRIDGE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING.
Ahmad bin Majid Private School in Al Khoudh hosted Cambridge Professional Development training for teachers at Cambridge-affiliated schools on March 9 and 10.
This is the fourth time the school has hosted such an event. More than 70 Cambridge teachers from around the region attended five workshops for skill building, updating teaching methods, networking and exchanging ideas with their counterparts. Cambridge Assessment Educational International facilitated the following sessions: Cambridge Lower Secondary English as a Second Language (1110) - Extension Training; Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (0620 - Extension Training; Cambridge Lower Secondary Science (1113) - Extension Training; Cambridge Lower Secondary Mathematics (1112) - Extension Training and Cambridge Primary Global Perspectives (0838) - Introductory Training.
According to the officials from Cambridge Assessment who were at the training, extended level training targets the more experienced teachers and that Cambridge still included an introductory level training for Global Perspectives as this is a new syllabus.
New to the range of Cambridge syllabi was Cambridge Primary Global Perspectives. Ahmad bin Majid Private School has been piloting the programme since 2016. It is one of the 40 schools worldwide from over 1,500 Cambridge Schools selected to pilot the programme and the only Cambridge school in Oman.
Ahmad bin Majid Private has piloted four programmes for Cambridge since 2006: Cambridge International Primary Programme in 2006; Cambridge Lower secondary 1 Checkpoint in 2007; Cambridge On-screen Checkpoint Assessments in 2015/6 and Cambridge the Cambridge Primary/Lower-secondary 1 Global Perspectives, 2016-18.
Cambridge assessment hopes that the PD trainings will enable teachers to get a deeper understanding of the syllabus and they are able to take the new teaching skills to share these with their peers in their Cambridge centres.
Maimouna al Ruqeishi, principal of Ahmad bin Majid Private School, stated that hosting training programmes builds teacher capacity in the region, while providing an outlet for innovation in teaching essential to establishing a vibrant community of learning among Cambridge schools.
