 AGRITOPE, ROGERS NK TO COLLABORATE ON TOMATO PROJECT
 BEAVERTON, Ore., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Epitope Inc. (AMEX: EPT) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Agritope Inc., has signed an agreement with Rogers NK Seed Co., an affiliate of Sandoz Seeds Ltd., Basel, Switzerland, to develop tomatoes with improved qualities. Agritope is using genetic engineering to control the production of ethylene, and plant hormone involved in the ripening process, to develop fruits, flowers and vegetables with prolonged post-harvest shelf life. Rogers NK has applied its breeding expertise to produce novel tomato varieties with improved flavor and texture.
 "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to combine our gene technology with the superior tomato varieties which have been developed by Rogers NK," said Adolph J. Ferro, president and chief operating officer of Epitope. "Our goal is to develop better-tasting tomatoes that last longer." In addition to tomatoes, Agritope is applying its proprietary ethylene-control technology to the development of broccoli, cauliflower, raspberries and carnations with improved characteristics.
