 AFX NEWS AND NEWSEDGE
WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- AFP-Extel News Ltd., the

leading independent provider of European financial and economic news via its AFX service, announces a new cooperation with Desktop Data, Inc. of Waltham to deliver AFX News on NewsEDGE/LAN in Europe.
NewsEDGE/LAN is a server-based news processing system providing real-time presentation of news headlines and text. It employs sophisticated filtering and alerting techniques alongside fast archiving and retrieval facilities.
AFX Business Director Graham Parry sees that NewsEDGE/LAN will provide AFX customers with a powerful vehicle for managing news on their own LANs and PCs. "The Desktop Data software makes the news generated by our reporters and editors even more valuable to customers," he added.
Donald McLagan, president of Desktop Data, Inc., said, "This agreement with AFX helps us meet the needs of U.K. and Continental European users in profiling business news according to their personal interests. Increasingly, our customers have worldwide information needs. Now, we can provide AFX and other news sources through NewsEDGE/LAN on both sides of the Atlantic." Desktop Data is the leading provider of live news processing software for LANs, WANs, PCs and RISC workstations in North America.
AFX News has been marketed in the U.S. through NewsEDGE since October 1991 and has successfully demonstrated the valuable combination of a quality news service across a system designed to emphasize selective news coverage to each client PC or workstation. This relationship has resulted in sales to a broad range of institutional and corporate applications in, for example, equity trading, fund management, corporate finance, executive information and investor relations.
NewsEDGE/LAN can now be demonstrated and delivered in Europe.
