AFTER 17 MONTHS OF SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS OF THE FIRST LEEDMARK,

NEW ELDIS CORP. SAYS IT PLANS TO BUILD A SECOND STORE IN THE AREA
GLEN BURNIE, Md., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- After 17 months of successful operations of it first Leedmark store in Glen Burnie, the New Eldis Corporation today announced it is ready to proceed with plans to build a second store in the Baltimore-Washington area by the fall of 1994. The Glen Burnie Store, which opened in May 1991, is the prototype for a group of one-stop shopping hybrid markets that will be built in the United States.
"We said 17 months ago that we would build more Leedmarks and now, with the benefit of what we have learned from the successful operation of the first store, we are ready to implement our plans for expansion," said company spokesman Edward Segal.
"Since we opened the first Leedmark, consumers have reacted very favorably to our new one-stop shopping hybrid market concept. They have truly shown their support and acceptance of our policy of selling high quality name brand merchandise at the lowest price every day of the year," Segal said.
Leedmark combines the best features of 18 different stores so that consumers can buy all of their basic needs for apparel, non-food and food items under one roof. The Glen Burnie store features more than 85,000 different items of merchandise.
Separately, the New Eldis Corp. announced that Thomas Lenkevich, president of G.B. Glenmark, Ltd. Co., the operating company of the Glen Burnie store, has resigned effective Nov. 2 for family reasons and is taking advantage of another opportunity.
Lenkevich will move to Michigan to become senior vice president of F&M Distributors, a regional discount drug chain headquartered in Warren, Mich.
Lenkevich will be succeeded by Tom Strzelczyk. Strzelczyk has served as vice president of Leedmark's food division since before the store opened.
Segal said that Strzelczyk, "has a strong and proven retail track record. That, together with his experience at Leedmark, will ensure a smooth transition in the management of the Glen Burnie store."
Strzelczyk has more than 20 years of progressive retail and executive leadership experience in retail operations. Prior to joining Leedmark, he served as vice president for one of the retail divisions of the Fleming Companies Inc., based in Oklahoma City. He was also general manager of their warehouse store group in Florida. The Fleming Companies is one of the largest food wholesalers in the United States.
Strzelczyk holds an MBA from DePaul University in Chicago. He lives in Severna Park, Md., with his wife and two children.
Richer Wernert was named to replace Strzelczyk, and will serve as general manager of the foods division at the Glen Burnie store. Wernert has been the divisional merchandise manager of the foods division since prior to the opening of the store.
Lenkevich said, "While I regret that family reasons led to my resignation, I am quite proud of the role that I was able to play to help shape and introduce the one-stop shopping hybrid market concept to the United States."
Strzelczyk said: "Leedmark's one-stop shopping hybrid market concept has proven to be very popular with consumers in the Baltimore-Washington area. I look forward to working with the store's strong management team to help achieve further successes."
