AFGHANISTAN - Jan. 7 - US Ends Reports On Manhunt.

The Pentagon indicates it will shift its attention away from the search for Bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar to focus instead on wiping out areas of resistance fighters and improving intelligence across the country. (Analysts say the shift in strategy reflects a growing frustration with the manhunt for senior Al Qaida and Taliban leaders). Rear Admiral John Stufflebeem, deputy director of operations for the US military's joint staff, said: "We're stepping back now in terms of a tactic. We're going to stop chasing the shadows of where we thought he [Mullah Omar] was and focus more on the entire picture of the country - where these pockets of resistance are and what the anti-Taliban forces need, so we can develop a better intelligence picture". US forces launch heavy air strikes on Al Qaida's Zhawar Kili camp in the south-east for the third day. The camp is struck again after tanks and artillery pieces were identified at the site, where the US believes Al Qaida fighters are attempting to regroup.
