AFGE RESPONDS TO BUSH HEALTH CARE PROPOSALS
 WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- John N. Sturdivant, national

president of the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, today issued the following statement in response to President Bush's health care proposals:
President Bush today claimed to solve this nation's health care crisis by telling Americans to take two aspirin and call him after the elections.
Bush took a step forward today by acknowledging this nation's critical health care problem, but turned the clock back on the health care debate by proposing ill-conceived, half-baked, marginal solutions to one of our nation's most serious problems.
While helping those below the poverty line, he has done nothing to arrest this nation's bloated, over-priced profiteering health care system through sensible and much-needed cost containment measures.
Bush's recent declaration that he would do anything to be re-elected was reaffirmed by his failure to provide specific funding mechanisms for his proposals.
The American Federation of Government Employees is the largest union for federal workers, representing 700,000 government employees in the United States and overseas, as well as employees of the District of Columbia.
