AFFINITY NETWORK INC. SUES AT&T LOS ANGELES, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Affinity Network Inc. (ANI),
a leading switchless reseller of AT&T's interstate switched long distance telecommunications network, has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, Central District of California, against American Telephone & Telegraph Co. (NYSE: T) for breach of contract, monopolistic practices, unreasonable tariff practices, interference with prospective economic advantage, unjust discrimination, unfair business practices and unfair competition, according to Sam Delug, ANI president.
AT&T is charged with employing a series of tactics designed to "kill" off competition from resellers of long distance phone services. The suit is significant in that the resale of these services offers a growing number of small and midsize businesses discounts previously available only to large corporations, according to Delug. The suit lists a series of allegedly unlawful and discriminatory AT&T practices which ANI claims will systematically squeeze switchless resellers out of business, such as intentionally misplacing or losing customer orders, requiring large security deposits and/or advance payments, providing little, if any, customer service, delaying billing, etc., according Delug. ANI seeks actual damages to cover loss of revenue, loss of existing and future customers, loss of profits and legal fees, among others, and to have AT&T cease its unfair practices, according to Delug. -0- 6/22/92 /NOTE: For more information or to get a copy of the brief, contact lead counsel Michael Glaser of Holme, Roberts & Owen in Denver, 303-861-7000./ /CONTACT: Michael Glaser of Holme, Roberts & Owen, 303-861-7000, for Affinity Network Inc./ (T) CO: Affinity Network Inc.; American Telephone & Telegraph Co.
