March 30 2012 (TUR) -- Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster & Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) stated that the number of Syrian citizens taking shelter in Turkey reached 17,895. Turkey is providing shelter, food, health, security, education, communication and religious services to Syrians who escaped from the clashes in their country and took shelter in Turkey, noted AFAD. AFAD stated that 296 Syrians crossed in Turkey today and yesterday. So far, 32,643 Syrian citizens have crossed in Turkey. Meanwhile, the number of Syrian citizens, who have also taken shelter in Lebanon and Jordan, is at least 80,000. The wave of "Arab Spring" reached Syria on March 15, 2011 and Syrian people started to protest the government in a small southern city. The government responded with heavy-handed force, and demonstrations quickly spread across much of the country. Thousands of people are reported to be killed in ongoing protests in Syria so far.
