AETRIUM SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO ACQUIRE SIENNA TECHNOLOGIES

ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Aetrium, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATRM) announced today that its board of directors has authorized the company to sign a letter of intent to acquire Sienna Technologies, Inc., for approximately $350,000. The acquisition is subject to approval by a vote of Sienna's shareholders and to the completion of due diligence and final approval by Aetrium management.
Sienna Technologies is a leader in the semiconductor reliability testing market with the installations in North America, Asia and Europe. Revenues for Sienna Technologies for the year ended Dec. 31, 1992, were $2.4 million. The company employs approximately 20 people in Mendota Heights, Minn.
Aetrium president Joe Levesque said, "The acquisition of Sienna Technologies will allow Aetrium to expand the breadth of its product offerings in the semiconductor manufacturing market and is expected to open new market opportunities since Sienna's products are used earlier in the manufacturing cycle than Aetrium's test handlers. We anticipate that we will benefit from increased business in existing accounts while gaining access to Sienna's customer relationships. We are also looking forward to having Sienna president Bryan Root join our management team. He has been a leader in this emerging field and will continue to manage the growth and scope of Sienna's business activities."
Sienna's president Root said, "We believe this transaction is the best way to enable Sienna to take advantage of the market opportunities that are present in the semiconductor reliability testing arena. We will have access to needed capital and technology resources through Aetrium and we will be merging with a company where the product lines are very complementary."
Levesque said that the acquisition should be completed by year-end. Aetrium and Sienna are publicly held companies. Aetrium, which became public through an initial public offering on Aug. 10, 1993, trades on the National Over-The-Counter market under the NASDAQ symbol ATRM. Sienna Technologies has been public since September, 1990, and trades on the Twin Cities Local Over-The-Counter market. Aetrium currently employs 130 people in its North St. Paul headquarters.
Aetrium designs, manufactures and markets test handlers and its proprietary Versatus(TM) automation modules used in the assembly and testing of packaged integrated circuits (ICs) semiconductor devices.
