AES claim Royal Salute Nations Cup.
Dubai: AES beat Royal Salute 5-3 to claim the title at The Royal Salute UAE Nations Cup 2015, hosted at the Desert Palm Retreat last week.
The match, played in front of a partisan crowd, saw AES become champions for the first time in the sixth year of the Royal Salute-sponsored event.
Despite a heroic hat-trick from captain Malcolm Borwick, the host team were unable to match their counterparts, who at one stage in the second chukka held a 4-1 lead. A tighter second half saw the final deficit reduced to two, but the game was AES's.
Torquhil Ian Campbell, the 13th Duke of Argyll, presented the Richard Fox-designed silver trophy to winning captain Sam Instone.
International professionals like Diego Cavanagh, Juan Gris Zavaleta, Matias Machado and Borwick were involved in the final. They were joined by Dubai-based players Sam Instone, Musab Al Wandawi, Kristian Peterson and Thomas Claesen.
David Freeborn, Managing Director of sponsors Pernod Ricard Gulf, said: "Once again The Royal Salute UAE Nations Cup has thoroughly entertained with both enthralling competition and first class hospitality here at the Desert Palm Retreat. The power and grace on display here in the final not only defines the elegance, richness and complexity of Royal Salute, but also the character of the brand as evidenced through its support of the honourable sport of polo."
