AEROVOX TO ACQUIRE CAPACITOR MANUFACTURER AERO M

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Aerovox Incorporated (NASDAQ: ARVX) has reached an agreement with Cooper Industries to purchase all of the stock of Cooper's Aero M aluminum electrolytic capacitor subsidiary.
The transaction is subject to a number of contingencies, including a satisfactory review by Aerovox of Aero M's business operations. Aerovox expects the transaction to be completed during the first quarter of 1993.
Aero M, a subsidiary of Cooper Industries, manufactures capacitors for motor start applications as well as various types of large can computer grade capacitors for electronic and electrical power supply applications. Aero M has plants in Glasgow, Kentucky and Huntsville, Ala.
According to Aerovox President Clifford H. Tuttle, there is tremendous compatibility and synergism between the companies' product lines. "Joining Aero M's motor start capacitors with Aerovox's capacitors for motor run applications is a perfect marriage," Tuttle stated. He also noted that Aero M's computer grade and Aerovox's DC film capacitor product lines make an excellent marketing combination for a variety of power supply applications.
Aerovox, a leading manufacturer of AC capacitors since 1922, has purchased two other businesses that round out its product lines since the company was spun off from Cooper Industries in 1989. In 1990, Aerovox acquired the DC film capacitor operation from an AT&T Microelectronics Business Unit. And in 1991, the company purchased certain assets of Cornell-Dubilier Electronics Co.'s New Bedford, Mass., electrical component operation for manufacturing AC capacitors, power product capacitors and EMI filters.
