AEROMEXICO ADDS SIX BOEING 757s TO ITS EXPANDING FLEET
SEATTLE, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Impressed with its wide-body, twinjet Boeing 767s, Aeromexico will add six standard-body, twinjet Boeing 757s to its fleet to gain the economic benefits derived from operating both aircraft, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group said today.
Aeromexico's Pratt & Whitney-powered 757s will seat 183 passengers in two classes, and will be leased from California-based International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC). The first two 757s will be delivered to Aeromexico in 1993 and the remaining four will enter service in 1994.
In 1990 Aeromexico took full advantage of Mexican government deregulation and used its first Boeing aircraft -- extended range 767s -- to initiate nonstop flights from Mexico City to Madrid and Paris. The popularity of those flights led Aeromexico this year to extend 767 service to Rome and Frankfurt.
"Our experience with Boeing aircraft has been very positive in all respects," said Guillermo Heredia, president of Aeromexico. "Our 767s are very popular with our customers and we believe that the economic advantages of the Boeing 757, with its similarities to the 767, will prove just as good a match for our expanding requirements."
One of the quietest, most fuel efficient aircraft in the world, the 757's flight deck is nearly identical to the 767's so flight crews trained in one can fly the other with minimal additional training. This gives airlines with both models the flexibility to match specific capacity to the demands of different routes.
Aeromexico's acquisition of 757s will bring to 52 the number of carriers operating the aircraft.
