AER LINGUS WINS 'QUIET AIRLINE AWARD' FROM CITY OF NEW YORK

NEW YORK, Nov. 24 ~PRNewswire~ -- Aer Lingus, Ireland's National Airline, has been awarded the international carrier "Quiet Airline Award" by the City of New York.
The award is given annually to the international airline which achieves a lowest level of noise violations while operating at the airport. The award is designed to recognize the airline which New York City considers to be a "good neighbor" to the residents who live around J.F.K. International Airport. Of the 63 international airlines which operated at Kennedy, AER Lingus topped the list by incurring only nine noise violations in 1,614 takeoffs during 1991 - a 0.56 percent violation rate. The airport's operator, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, attributes the AER Lingus achievement to its consistently high standard of Stage III operations with Boeing 747 equipment and to the obvious importance attached to noise abatement by AER Lingus flight crews.
The award will be given to AER Lingus at a ceremony on Dec. 2. Claire Shulman, the Queens Borough president will make the presentation to Patrick Costigan, AER Lingus 747 fleet captain, and to John Bastable, the AER Lingus senior vice president - North America.
