 AEP NAMES CARL ERIKSON VICE PRESIDENT AND
 ASSISTANT TO PRESIDENT E. LINN DRAPER, JR.
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Carl A. Erikson, vice president of Ohio Power Company, has been elected vice president and executive assistant to the president of American Electric Power Service Corporation, effective November 1.
 Erikson, 41, was elected a vice president of Canton-based Ohio Power in May 1990. In that capacity, he supervised transmission and distribution, system operations and purchasing and materials management functions.
 In his new position, Erikson will report to E. Linn Draper, Jr., president of AEP. "Carl's broad experience in the AEP System will prove valuable in our efforts to respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities now facing electric utilities," Draper said.
 A native of Minnesota, Erikson received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota. He earned a master's degree and a doctorate degree, both in civil engineering, from the University of Illinois. In 1989, he entered the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a master's degree in management science.
 Erikson joined the AEP Service Corporation in 1979 at Appalachian Power Company's Mountaineer Plant at New Haven, W.Va., assigned to the construction
department. In 1980, Erikson moved to the construction contracts section and the project management group of AEP Service Corporation, then in New York City. He became supervisor of project controls in 1982.
 Following AEP's move to Columbus in 1983, Erikson became manager of project controls, and then administrative assistant to the vice chairman-engineering and construction. Erikson later served as manager of the nuclear operations section and assistant manager of the nuclear operations division.
 On January 1, 1989, Erikson became assistant to the executive vice president - operations of AEP Service Corporation. He served on a special assignment for five months at Columbus Southern Power Company, another operating company of the AEP System, before assuming his most recent post at Ohio Power.
